Welcome to the ENGAGE Lab page!

Dr. Carpenter directs the ENGAGE lab at the ASU College of Health Solutions.

WHAT WE DO

We focus on Engagement, Regulation, Adaptive Intervention Designs, and Emotions.

Our science focuses on Engagement through the lens of health psychology and health decision making, with an ongoing focus of how to promote health behavior change. We seek to understand how emotions and regulatory behaviors guide engagement, as well as how we can promote engagement in health behavior change through the development of optimized and personalized interventions, including just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAIs). We utilize a variety of approaches, from building digital and mobile health (mHealth) interventions to community engaged research to traditional experiments. Health behaviors of interest include substance use, physical inactivity and sedentary behaviors, weight loss, and stress regulation.

Dr. Carpenter is currently recruiting for Research Assistants and a PhD student to start in 2024. Please reach out if you’re interested!
